QIC Launches AI Internship Program to Build Qatar’s Next Generation of AI Talent

Doha, Qatar – Qatar Insurance Company (QIC) has launched its first AI-focused summer internship program for university students, aiming to equip young talent with practical experience in artificial intelligence, agentic AI, and rapid application development.

The eight-week program brings together students from four universities following a competitive selection process that evaluated academic performance, project proposals, and interview results. Participants will receive hands-on training from QIC experts and develop their own AI-powered digital services using emerging technologies such as agentic AI and vibe coding.

A key feature of the program is the opportunity for interns to see their ideas move beyond the classroom. Selected projects will undergo user testing within QIC’s digital ecosystem, while the most promising solutions may be integrated into the company’s live platforms and services.

Commenting on the initiative, Salem Al Mannai, Group CEO of QIC, said the program reflects the company’s commitment to developing regional AI capabilities and empowering young innovators to create solutions tailored to local market needs.

The internship initiative builds on QIC’s broader digital transformation strategy, which increasingly relies on artificial intelligence to improve customer experience, accelerate product development, and enhance operational efficiency. The insurer has established dedicated AI research and development teams focused on creating proprietary solutions that support its expanding digital ecosystem.

Why It Matters

The program highlights a growing trend across the Gulf region, where leading corporations are moving beyond AI adoption and investing directly in talent development. By giving students the opportunity to build and potentially deploy real-world AI applications, QIC is helping bridge the gap between academic learning and industry implementation.

For Qatar’s startup and innovation ecosystem, the initiative signals increasing private-sector involvement in cultivating AI talent and supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
