Nasdaq-listed mobility technology company Swvl Holdings Corp. (Nasdaq: SWVL) has secured a $13 million private investment, led by U.S.-based investment firm Coefficient LP, as the company prepares to accelerate its expansion into the United States.
Coefficient, which is backed by Egypt’s Sawiris family, is investing $10 million in the round and is expected to become Swvl’s largest institutional shareholder following the transaction. An existing Swvl shareholder is contributing the remaining $3 million, increasing its position in the company.
As part of the investment, Abdalla Ali, Founder and Managing Partner of Coefficient, will join Swvl’s Board of Directors.
Under the agreement, Swvl will issue approximately 8.99 million Class A shares at $1.446 per share. The transaction is expected to close on August 27, 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
Swvl targets U.S. expansion
The fresh capital comes as Swvl reports stronger growth across its enterprise and government-focused mobility business.
In the first quarter of 2026, the company generated $8.2 million in revenue, up 68% year-on-year, while revenue from the GCC increased 111%. Recurring revenue accounted for 88% of total revenue, while net dollar retention reached 114%.
Swvl also said dollar-pegged revenue increased to 44% of total revenue, while operating expenses declined to 23% of revenue as the company moves closer to operating breakeven.
The company plans to use the new funding to accelerate its U.S. expansion, launch a lending offering for transport operators and partners within its network, and strengthen its balance sheet as it pursues a growing pipeline of multi-year enterprise and government contracts.
Swvl Founder and CEO Mostafa Kandil described the investment as the beginning of the company’s next phase, with the U.S. positioned as a major new growth market.
“We view this investment as powering Swvl’s next chapter, cutting the ribbon on the U.S. market as we have just started our U.S. operations,” Kandil said.
Sawiris-backed Coefficient takes long-term position
For Coefficient and the Sawiris family, the investment represents a long-term bet on Swvl’s technology-driven approach to mass transportation.
Onsi Sawiris said the family has historically backed founders building businesses with the potential to compound over decades, pointing to Swvl’s operations serving enterprises and governments across seven countries.
Coefficient’s Abdalla Ali highlighted Swvl’s use of AI and orchestration technology to improve existing transportation capacity rather than relying solely on adding vehicles or physical infrastructure.
Founded in Egypt and now headquartered in Dubai, Swvl has evolved from its early consumer-focused mass transit model into a technology platform focused primarily on enterprise and government mobility solutions.
The new investment gives Swvl additional capital to pursue its next international growth phase, with the United States emerging as a key strategic market.
