Qatar-based agentic AI startup Aligator has raised $1.2 million (QAR 4.3 million) in a seed funding round to accelerate the development of its AI-powered platform and expand across the GCC and MENA.
The round was led by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and Next Ventures, a fund by Media City Qatar, with participation from a group of private investors.
Founded in 2025 by Ali Abbas, Aligator develops autonomous AI agents specifically designed for the public relations industry. Its technology automates workflows including drafting and distributing press materials, monitoring media coverage, identifying relevant journalists and media outlets, and managing outreach campaigns.
The company says its AI agents can learn a client’s voice, media landscape and communications objectives, allowing PR teams and agencies to reduce repetitive operational work and spend more time on strategy and relationship building.
Aligator was founded by a team of Qatar Foundation alumni, including graduates of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Texas A&M University at Qatar. The startup is incorporated in Media City Qatar, licensed by the Qatar Financial Centre, and headquartered in Doha.
The fresh capital will be used to accelerate product development, expand Aligator’s suite of autonomous PR agents, and grow its engineering, AI research and go-to-market teams. The company also plans to expand across the GCC and wider MENA region, targeting PR agencies, corporates and government communications teams.
Founder Ali Abbas said the investment would help the company accelerate its product roadmap, grow its engineering capabilities and bring agentic AI tools to communications professionals across the region and beyond.
